After the last few days that I had endured, I really felt that I needed some time alone to clear my head. I had made my way into Balamb town and was sitting at the docks looking out into the water. I hated that that she despised me so much. But as far as I could remember, that was the way it had always been. It was what we were used to. I felt naïve thinking it would ever be any different. I remember once when I was little I really wanted a pet and our mum and dad wouldn’t let us have one. Not giving up, I made my own little dog out of paper and covered it with glue and stuck old bits of carpet over so that I could feel it being soft and fluffy. I then made sure it was safely hidden from Renea because I knew she would only rip it up once she saw all the effort I had put into it. It only lasted for a week and then I found it had been destroyed. I was absolutely devastated, and when Renea found me crying over my shredded pet, I remember her saying.
“It’s a good thing it wasn’t a real dog because I still would have done the same.” After that I was so happy that I never had a real pet. I think all of my childhood memories are just like that. A lot of them still stuck with me to this day. Maybe I was stupid for still wanting to protect her, and for having hope that there was something redeemable about her, but I didn’t care. I was sure that one day, when she thinks back and wished she could take everything back I will still be here for her. Still, my compassion for her wasn’t going to stop me from beating her in the Holy mission.
“Hey.” I heard Roth’s voice come from behind me before he sat down next to me. “Worrying about the tournament?” he asked.
“Not at all.” I smiled. He looked down at my bad arm and frowned.
“But your weakened? Are you sure you’re going to be okay?” he said. I noticed that Roth was acting strange for some reason. It wasn’t what he was saying but more about how he was saying it. He was looking at me differently than he usually did. Then he moved in and it seemed as if he was looking as if his face was getting closer to mine and his voice was a lot softer.
“It will be fine in the morning. I wouldn’t let it hold me back.” I smiled at him, but the truth was I was feeling a little uncomfortable with Roth for the first time ever. He reached out to put his hand onto mine, before squeezing it.
“Just so you know, I believe in you. I really think you can win this.” he smiled, pausing as he stared right into my eyes. “And just so you never doubt it, you are and have always been my favourite sister.” Roth said. Oh no!
We had arrived at the island closest to heaven. And the first thing I saw when we got out of our vehicles was Renea looking as if she was about to kill some girl who seemed like she just wanted to be of some help. She looked like a little lost sheep. I had to step in and do something for her.
“So you’re twins? Sorry that was a silly question. Obviously you are twins.” Miana said, seeming a little shaken up after the whole ordeal with the lovely Renea.
“You can tell your instructor that you got us mixed up if you like, that way you won’t get into any trouble.” I smiled, trying to calm her down.
“I can’t believe how different you both are. I mean, you’re nowhere near as scary as her.” she smiled, then the realisation of what she just said seemed to hit her face, so she added. “Oh, I’m sorry I know that she is your sister. I shouldn’t have said that.”
“Don’t worry, we really don’t get on. It’s a good thing I jumped in there. It really is best if you don’t push her.” I explained to her. Miana had shown me around the campsite, allowing me to take in all the sites. Once she ran out of things to show me, Miana took me to the meeting with the headmaster where almost everyone was. I looked around to see if I could see my opponents. First I saw Thadeous, who I must say I wasn’t too worried about. I had seen him in training before and I never thought he was too great at the fighting part. I got the idea that he was more book smart than good in a fight. All I had to do was use confuse on him and I had a feeling it would be pretty easy. I saw my sister looking around as if she really didn’t want to be there at all. The only other person I saw there was Dilaminous. I had not long got a letter off of Dilaminous, I think he was trying to get inside my head. It didn’t bother me though, he didn’t know me so I knew he was just playing games. Everything he knew about me was what he had read in my file and that didn’t flatter me too much.
After the meeting with the headmaster of Trabia, Miana smiled at me and looked over to where all the food was laid out on a table.
“Hungry?” she asked. I nodded in response. I hadn’t eaten much over the last few days. I was so hungry that I snatched up three hot dogs to put on my plate before Miana and I sat down on an empty table.
“You must be really hungry.” Miana giggled as she saw me wildly begin to stuff the first one in my mouth.
“I’ve been worrying about the Holy Mission so much I have kind of forgotten to eat.” I said while pushing the second hotdog into my mouth and almost swallowing it whole. I saw Miana smile and wave someone over.
“Hey!" I heard a voice come from behind me, and I turned to see that it was a man who looked a little older than me. He was quite attractive with short dark hair.
“Hey Lasha, this is Amne.” Miana said, introducing us as we kindly shook hands.
“As in Amne that is taking part in the tournament?” he asked, though he didn’t look too impressed. In fact, I could have almost sworn that he was annoyed.
“That’s me.” I smiled.
“Hmm, funny how they would put in a little girl like you.” he spat rudely at me.
“Lasha!” Miana said under her breath, shocked that he would come out with such harshness, then she smiled at me. “Please excuse Lasha, here. He is just a little bitter that he didn’t get picked for the Holy mission.”
“I’m sorry! But I’m a SeeD now and I have been for half a year! And what the hell is she? Just a little student who hasn‘t achieved anything!” He said with his voice raised in anger.
“There is no need to talk to her like that. She didn’t pick herself.” Miana said, pushing him slightly to let him know how rude he was being.
“You’ll see.” I said, my voice determined.
“You what?” he spat, sounding as if I had just insulted him in a way he didn’t yet understand.
“In the tournament. That’s when you’ll see why I was picked.” I said, smiling confidently at him. I was ready for it now. I didn’t care who I was coming up against, I would show everyone what I was made of. The moment was finally upon us, and despite what Lasha, Roth, Renea or anyone thought, I was going to give it everything I had. I knew I could win. I just knew it.
