The evening was going better than I had hoped. Trixie and I got on so well that I knew already that I could trust her with my life, and I willing would. She was everything I could have imagined a girl to be. As we sat in the library, every now and then we’d burst into fits of giggles as our subject of conversation led into ridiculous territories. Though that amused us, the librarian wasn’t as thrilled with our outbursts, and continued to hush us until she had had enough of us and told us to leave. It was the first time I’d ever been kicked out of the library, or even been told off by any member of the faculty. After we left, we decided to take a long scenic walk back to her dorm, so that we could make the most of the pleasantries that the evening had to offer.
“I can’t believe you got me kicked out of the library.” I said, while laughing and trying to casually throw my arm around her shoulders. She noticed, but didn’t deter me from doing it, even smiling before she replied.
“Is it the start of your criminal career?” She giggled, elbowing me in the ribs slightly before shaking me off and running in a girly fashion, making cute squeals as I proceeded to chase her. “Stay away.”
“Come back here, you. I’ll teach you for running off.” I laughed, as I finally caught up to her and pulled her around to face me. Time seemed to stop as I looked down at her, though she was only a couple of inches shorter than me. She seemed so delicate yet so strong, an aura that made me want her even more. I couldn’t explain the infatuation I had with her, for it was so complicated I barely understood it. All I could do was enjoy it. So as I looked at her, and she at me, our heads slowly drew closer to one another. Then, as if the whole world stood still just for us, all I knew was her lips had met mine and I knew was that she was mine and I was hers. At that moment, my heart fluttered in such away that I felt like I must be floating above Balamb, still locked gently in her embrace. Everything in that moment confirmed that I loved her. I pulled away slowly, taking a moment to look into her glittering eyes. “Trixie, I…”
“Ssshhh.” She whispered, placing a finger over my mouth, as if she knew what was about to escape my lips. “Not yet, we have only just met. We can’t be there already.”
“I know it’s crazy. I know that it usually takes people months to reach where we are now, but, I can’t deny how I feel.” I said, trying desperately to find the words without sounding like a complete prat, just knowing that I was failing miserably on the latter. Her eyes seemed to be enjoying it, even though her words suggested it was too much. I felt her soft hands move up to caress my cheek, and before I knew it, we were kissing once again. After that moment, the evening just seemed to slip away from me, and before I even knew what had happened, I had already walked her home, kissed her goodbye and made my way grudgingly back to my dorm room. My roommate was already asleep when I got home, and I noticed that it had gone midnight. Where had the time gone? On my bedside cabinet, I noticed a single letter for me, which I quickly opened and thumbed through.
Thadeous,
I hear from various sources in your Garden that you are an overachiever in all things. You excel in battles and physical tests as well as having a good edge in theoretical exercises. Unfortunately for you, this is not a game. The Holy Mission tournament requires something more than good grades to get the best of your opponents. After all is said and done, one person will be victorious. This person will be the epitome of what it is to be a SeeD. Make no mistake about it… I do not think you a worthy of the uniform, and come Sunday I will take it upon myself to put you in your place and rough you up a bit. If you are to battle me, you will find yourself in my way of the prize and I do assure you, that is not somewhere you want to be. I hope you get my letter soon. Write back, we can be pen pals. I look forward to meeting you.
Yours sincerely,
Dilaminous.
Dilaminous? Why would he write me such a letter before Sunday? I didn’t really understand the meaning of his insulting words, but it did seem to light a fire under me. The tournament was only a few days away and I had let my attention slip… Not that I minded too much. Now, it was obviously time to think about what was in front of me. This Dilaminous was obviously scared because otherwise he wouldn’t feel the need for such childish mind games. He was trying to make out that he was the bigger man when clearly he was not. Idol threats were something a child would do, so I wasn’t going to threat him too much. As for the other contenders, Renea frightened me, especially after what I knew she had done to her sister. Amne on the other hand mustn’t be in a fit enough state to battle to her full potential so I would count her out as a serious threat too. Muthrik was the wild card. I didn’t know too much about him from his file, only that he had something about him that Trabia Garden seemed highly interested in. I couldn’t overlook that. Gresh was the other one that I might consider to be a mystery. His reputation had him pegged as a loose cannon who would and would do anything for a thrill. I had to weigh up everything I knew about the five opponents that I might face and logically assess how they would approach a battle with me… Either that or I’d think about Trixie some more and just wing it. That sounded like a better idea. So without thinking on the subject any longer, I screwed the letter up and threw it across the room into the waste paper basket. Then, quickly checking to see that my roommate was still sleeping, I quietly stepped into the bathroom and locked the door.
