It has been some time since I came to Trabia Garden after waking in that cryo pod. Not really sure how long but when I think about it I know it’s been a while. When I first came to this place looking like some scientist that has never washed his clothes, the headmaster here wasn’t really sure what to expect of me. But after hearing my story he had a different look in his eye. He told me if what I said to be true then he’s really curious as to what my potential would be and allowed me into his Garden. I was afraid I might be kicked out if I did poorly so from that day until now, everything they threw at me I gave my all. The instructors have often all told me that I would make a great SeeD one day and to keep it up.
On the day of my SeeD exam I was so nervous I puked at least three times just on the way there. This would be the first time I would fight real enemies and also the first time where I can die in battle. The simulators Trabia Garden has work really well at simulating real battles with different kinds of opponents ranging from the common creatures found around Trabia to historical figures such as Sorceress Adel. But this is the first time where I felt afraid and just thinking about what could happen was making my stomach feel heavy. Remembering my training, I focused my mind and pushed those thoughts out of my head. There’s no time for these kinds of emotions on the battlefield because if it happens at the wrong moment, I may end up dead. But one thing I didn’t see coming that day was how easy the test really was. Even though I was often ridiculed for using such an old weapon, it ended up becoming something like an extension of myself during those battles. I swung it around, parrying blows just to open them up for a shot in the chest, and then slashing others like it was second nature to me. Maybe it was my training; or maybe what that scientist in the hologram said was true. No matter what that reason was though the headmaster was very pleased at my results and told me I passed with flying colors. I can’t believe this day has finally come; the day where I will finally become a SeeD of Trabia Garden.
At first I saw this place as a sanctuary. But now, after the long months and the experiences I had here, I feel comfortable calling this place home. I guess anyone who suffered from amnesia would call the first place they find livable “home”. But I highly doubt they had the amount of luck I did though because given the odds, I think luck played a major part in how I came to be where I am today.
Me and seven other students were standing in the Headmaster’s office at attention, waiting as he passed out our diplomas and even though it wasn't procedure; he also presented each of us with a gift. I has having a hard time trying to keep myself from shaking with excitement. When no one was looking I kept wiping my sweaty palms on my trousers. And finally what seemed like an eternity, he stood in front of me.
He was smiling as he handed me the diploma and said, "I must say you have surpassed all expectations of both me and the staff here at Trabia Garden. You are a perfect example of what it takes to becoming a SeeD. You have gained strength through your training and dedication but the important thing is the amount of heart you put into it. You have become stronger than what I was hoping for and am very proud to have you among the other members of SeeD."
He then turned from me and walked to the front of his office. With a nod, he gave a salute and we followed. "Dismissed! …except for you, Muthrik. I need a word with you, if you please."
"Of course, sir," I said trying to keep the hint of surprise in my voice hidden. Maybe he was going to give me a gift that he didn’t want the others to see? I thought. But he’s known to be pretty random at times so it really could be anything. He sat behind his desk and looked up at me, the hint of happiness vanishing from his eyes only to be replaced by a more serious look and waited until the last SeeD closed the door.
"I would like to congratulate you once again on you becoming a member of SeeD as a first but unfortunately, I’m going to have to throw you into battle once again. But this isn’t as serious as the exam but even still, it's pretty serious. It might be more difficult but it shouldn’t be to the death."
He was silent for a moment and I felt the air start to thicken. My mind wandered around, trying to figure out what he’s talking about.
The headmaster opened a drawer from his desk and placed a folder in front of me. He told me to take a look and to study it. Inside the folder were papers of five different students from the other Gardens. I really hoped I’m not supposed to go on an assassination mission and these people were my targets.
"There’s going to be a tournament that Trabia Garden will be hosting, The Holy Mission, and I would like you to be part of it." My jaw dropped. He can’t possibly be serious!
"Sir…" I started to say but when he held up his hand, I bit my tongue.
"The reason why I chose you is because I believe you are the only one capable in this Garden to compete and possibly end up winning. I know you doubt yourself because you’ve been doubting yourself ever since arriving here. But I have something for you and I hope it will give you a little more confidence when the time to fight arrives along with any other battles you will fight in your future."
He got up and grabbed a black case about five feet in length sitting behind him that I hadn't noticed before. He grinned as he placed it in front of me. Not really knowing what to expect, I undid the buckles keeping it closed and opened it slowly. I couldn’t believe it. Inside the case was a weapon; a new pin-fire sword. Unlike mine, which was ancient, this thing looked completely different. Instead of the barrel being on the side of the blade, it now rested on the top and the blade was longer and thicker than the one on mine. I took the weapon out of the case and swung it around a little. The balance was much better and it was a lot lighter, allowing me to strike faster and if I need to use the gun mechanism, the weight allowed me to point it straight out with just one hand. The grip was a little thicker and longer too. It gave me the option of swinging with one hand or two and I no longer felt like it would slip out of my hand with the thick grip. If memory served me right, this was the weapon in the blueprint I gave him when I first arrived. This was a fantastic weapon! One that I felt I can take on the world with. I felt like this weapon was made specifically for me.
"So I take it you’re ready now, Muthrik?" the headmaster said with a raised eyebrow.
Putting my old weapon in the case and putting the new one in the sheath on my back, I couldn’t help but smile.
"Hell yeah, sir."
The headmaster smirked and nodded.
