The fang had me pinned with my back held firmly to the ground. I was using all that was in me to guard its sharp teeth away from my face using both of my arms. It’s mighty jaw was so close that I could feel its saliva drip onto my face.
“Elizza! You’re stronger than it. You can do this!” I heard Zane yell. I looked into its face and saw it’s hungry eyes possessed, wanting to gnaw me to pieces. The little strength I had was just enough to hold it off and wasn’t going to keep me alive for much longer.
“Your Dagger!” yelled Zane. I looked to the side of me and there was my dagger, where I had dropped it when the creature pounced on me. I looked back at my enemy. How was I meant to reach it without me facing my defeat? I put all my strength into my left arm guarding my upper body. With my right arm, I stretched out as much as I could for my dagger, while not taking my eyes off of the fang. I felt the sharpness of the dagger on my hand as I grabbed the blade and the pain burnt through me as a fresh wound had been made causing my strength to waver. The fang smelt my blood, instinctively it turned to face my hand with it teeth baring. It’s guard was now down, as I realised that this was my chance. Using everything that I had in me to over power the fang, I kicked out to flip it off of me onto its back. Now I was in control. I grabbed hold of my dagger and lunged forward, stabbing it in the heart. I could hear its cries just before it took its last breath. It made me cringe.
“You did it!” Zane yelled.
“I really thought I was going to die.” I said in shock
“I wouldn’t have let that happen.” said Zane. “I told you that you could do it. You’re a lot stronger then you think.”
“Maybe I am.” I smiled.
“Okay now let’s go find some goblins. We’ll do the same as we did here.” Zane said.
Before Zane came along, I would have hit something twice before running away from the fight. I really thought that in doing that it would make me stronger, But I was wrong. Zane had helped me fight the first few fangs that attacked us, but then he said I would benefit from it a lot more if I fought them on my own. He was right. I could already feel my body becoming stronger with each fight. Still, I felt secure knowing that Zane was there to back me up if I needed help, he wouldn’t let anything happen to me.
“Look there.” Zane said as he was pointing at a goblin. I smiled confidently at him because I was no longer afraid. Holding my dagger tightly in my hand, my body was ready to fight. But then something had beaten me to it, binding it tightly in its tentacles until there was no life left in the goblin. It was a Prison Cage. ‘Oh no,’ I thought. ‘I wasn’t ready for that!’ I looked back at Zane who was calling for me to come back. But before I could make my move, it had me. Ii had me trapped and I had no way of getting out. I then saw Zane running my way with his sword in his hand. He swiped ferociously at the Prison Cage but it threw him back with it tentacles. I used my dagger to slash one of the reeds that was keeping me imprisoned and for just a moment the reed dropped and I took the opportunity to jump out to my freedom. Quickly I tried to think what else could I do? It was only a matter of seconds until it was going to trap me again. Seeing no other alternative, I felt I had to use it. I grabbed hold of my staff tightly and prayed. “Bahamut please help me.” Instantly I could feel myself being protected though I couldn’t see anything around me. I looked towards Zane who was looking at me confused. What could he see? Was something happening to me? I looked back at the Prison Cage and there it was; Bahamut flying around it. Bahamut landed in front of it, towering mightily over my enemy and then it simply opened it’s mouth and then all I could see was light, everything red and white. It was so blinding that I had to close my eyes. All I could hear for a moment was a high pitched shrieking sound. Then the sound stopped. I looked over where the Prison Cage was and saw that it was burnt to a crisp and I found myself staring at it in shock. From behind me I could hear Zane’s foot steps approaching, so I turned to face him, still in a state of disbelief.
“You can summon?” he said sounding in shock himself.
“I’ve never used it before, but I have always know I had it.” I said breathlessly.
“You’ve had all that power in you and you’ve never used it?” he asked.
“I was frightened of what would happen. But I would have never thought Bahamut was that powerful.” I said with the realisation of how incredible he was dawning on me.
Zane walked to face me.
“Don’t you see? This is it. This is why you have been picked to take part in the Royal Summons. Summoning is very rare, in fact the only people I know to willed such a power is Queen Garnet herself and Lady Eiko.” he said. “If you use that in the tournament you’ll win for sure.” Zane added.
“No!” I turned away from him “I never want to use it again. That has too much power, it could turn on me.” I said.
“You worry because of what happen to Queen Brahne.” He asked as I nodded silently in response. “ She stole that power from Queen Garnet, it was never really hers. An eidolon would never turn on it’s true master.” said Zane.
“I’m sorry, I’m not using it. I’ll fight on my own without Bahamut.”
The Royal Summons is only a day away and I didn’t feel I could be any more frightened than I already am. Looking at Zane, I could see he had every faith in me and my abilities. The real question, what I had to ask myself was; did I have faith in myself?
