As I took each step worry and doubt grew stronger in my mind. Each time my foot softly hits the broken grass I can feel my the beating of my heart get harder and harder. I have never been this far into the evil forest before but I knew I had to go on. I’m not cut out for fighting but I have to prove myself. I hold my staff so tightly in my hands my fingers are numb, anxiety building as I have only been training for a little amount of time and I only know one spell. Fighting fangs is easy, but I have no idea what I might encounter deeper into the forest; it frightens me just thinking about it. Who would be able to come to my aid, if I were to go missing my adopted mother and father are too weak to come look for me. I would be lost forever. I take in a deep breath and stop thinking of what might happen, having to think about my surroundings. I just have to be able to fight better than I presently can; I must.
“Huh?!” I exclaimed, jumping as I could hear twigs breaking in the trees. ‘Okay, Elizza, just be ready for anything. You can do this.’ I think to myself, though even in my head my voice doesn’t sound to sure. My eyes catch something coming at me from the trees, and without even seeing what it is, I use my fire spell on it, while fearing for my life.
“Ouch!” I heard a pained voice yell.
‘Do monsters speak?’ I think to myself, realising my own naivety. But then I see for myself, this was no monster; it was a man.
“Oh no!” I say, my voice now filled with guilt. “I’m ever so sorry, I can’t believe I just did that!” I explain to him, feeling humiliated.
“It’s okay.” He assures me, checking over himself before adding, “no harm done. It’s a good thing that your weak.” The man laughed.
I put my head down, now feeling a different humiliation. I attacked a random man with my fire spell and couldn’t even hurt him. Though that was good that he was fine, it made me feel small.
“Hey, I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to upset you there.” The man said, realising immediately how I felt. “All you need is a little more training.” He was smiling at me now, reassuring me with his eyes.
“That is what I came out here for. I thought you was a monster.” I sighed.
“Thanks.” He said, acting offended.
“Oh, I’m sorry. I realise that you’re not a monster.” I say, with embarrassment.
“I king of guessed that.” He said, smiling. “First of all, you need to be less jumpy. Also, I’d suggest you learn what you’re fighting so you know what it is weak against. If that was a Bomb that attacked you, you would have only made it stronger.”
“I only know one spell.” I said, my head still hanging slightly.
“Then I suggest a better weapon than that old staff you have there.” The man said, smiling still. “And it’s best if you don’t just rely on magic alone, especially when you’re just starting out.”
“I’ll keep that in mind.” I reply to him, smiling back now.
“Would you like me to come with you while you train? You look a little worried still.” The man suggests to me, and I find myself nodding instantly.
