We got off the airship at Dollet to find 2 large black SUV's with blacked out windows waiting for us in an underground carpark "Well that's real subtle" I said sarcastically to the SeeD officer in charge, Mr Shaw.
"It's for your own protection Mr Oxden, this isn't the first time we've done this so please stop worrying, you'll be perfectly safe." He opened a door and helped Alice get in while I went around to the other side and jumped in myself.
As I put my seatbelt on I watched as Mr Shaw and another officer sat in the front of our car and another 4 entered the car opposite. I turned to Alice and gave her a reassuring smile, "We're nearly there, soon we'll finally have some answer."
She returned the smile but her eyes still showed the worry at the front of her thoughts "I hope so" she replied and turned to look out of the window.
It had been 20 minutes since we'd left Dollet and we we're now over half way to the Garden, it was late and the road was empty Mr Shaw turned in his seat to face us "Not long now Mr Oxden, I told you you could count on us" he said with a smug grin. I stared coldly at him until he turned back around and returned to gazing out of the window, when headlights caught my eye. A motorbike had just overtaken us at high speeds with another 12 following, all wearing the same Dollet Demons leather jackets "Stupid bike gangs" I muttered under my breath.
Just then 2 of the bikes slowed down and held a steady pace alongside the lead car, and what came next seemed to happen in slow motion. The 2 bikers raised their left hands from their laps, revealing sub-machine guns of some kind, and pointed them at the car in front. Seconds later there were flashes from the barrels of the guns where they had opened fire and the lead car started veering across the road towards a steep embankment. As the car reached the edge, and the front end went over, we watched helplessly as it started to barrel-roll and vanished in the darkness.
Alice started screaming and we all turned towards her to see the 2 gunmen pulling along side us "Get us out of here Alex" Mr Shaw shouted at the driver, breaking his trance he seemed to be in. Alex immediately swerved the car towards the bikers and there was the crunch of metal on metal as they were pushed into the central barrier, I watched as they disappeared behind us, skidding along the road.
Alex sped up as the other 11 bikers weaved around the obstruction of the gunmen and their bikes, but the heavy SUV was no match for the much lighter motor bikes and there were 4 of them on our tail in moments in a triangle formation. Mr Shaw reached into the glove box and pulled out a small revolver and started winding his window down, while I grabbed Alice and pulled her head into my chest as if it would somehow protect her from any trauma she would no doubt have. Mr Shaw started firing rapidly into the group behind us and after 5 shots managed to hit the biker at the head of the triangle fully in the chest. At close to 120mph the 3 behind him stood no chance of evasion, the lead biker fell to the left and his ride to the right causing a kind of road block, one biker rode straight into him and the other two into his bike, sparks started flying all over the road behind us as metal scraped on tarmac. There were 7 left.
I watched through the rear windscreen as another biker rode up behind us, "Duck!" I shouted, dragging Alice down with me, as he raised a gun of his own. Glass started falling on us as bullets came through the window, and my heart stopped as I felt the car start to drift to the side.
I looked to the front and saw Alex slumped over to the side, he had been hit but I couldn't see where. Mr Shaw swore and leaned over to grab the steering wheel and forced the gear stick into neutral "We're gonna have to fight" he shouted at me "I've got one shot left, I'll take out the gunman but after that you better start praying for a miracle." The car started slowing down and he pulled the handbrake up, turning the steering wheel to force the car into a well judged skid stopping the car sideways across the road, using it to create a barrier. We climbed out of the opposite side to the bikers approach, "Whatever happens keep your head down and stay out of sight" I commanded Alice as I pulled on my gloves. Leather with vicious metal spikes across the knuckles they could rip flesh as easily as paper, I had never used them against a human before but we were fighting for our lives now.
As the bikers neared, Mr Shaw stood up and leaned across the bonnet of the car, steadying his aim against the gunman, the other bikers behind him had pulled baseball bats and chains from alongside them, it seemed they would prefer a brawl.
The two men shot at the same time and they both flew backwards, the biker landing on the floor, not moving, and Mr Shaw spinning to the ground a patch of blood spreading from his shoulder. I ripped my shirt off and handed it to Alice, her face was as pale as a sheet "keep pressure on the wound, I'm going over" I turned away and jumped over the bonnet to face the 6 remaining attackers who had got off their bikes and started advancing on foot in a line across the road.
I ran at them building as much speed as I could, they tried to part in the middle but weren't quick enough, I launched myself at the last minute grabbing two of them by the throat and forcing them to the floor, with all my weight focused on their necks I felt bones snapping, their windpipes crushed between my hands and the road. 4 left.
As I stood up they all stepped back wary, unsure whether or not to risk fighting, "Kill him!" the largest of them said, taking charge. Three of them came at me, the leader disappearing behind them. The first to get close to me swung a heavy chain towards my head but I ducked, raising my left arm to meet the chain near his hand, it wrapped around my forearm and I pulled him in, his stomach meeting my fist. The spikes on my gloves shredded his muscle, not a fatal wound but enough to put him out of the fight. 3...
The next swung a bat at me, too close for me to dodge so I raised my left arm again at an angle. With the chain still wrapped around my arm the force of the bat was deflected along it and the biker was caught off balance, momentum working against him, I grabbed his head and forced it down into my knee, breaking his nose and knocking him unconscious. 2..
Suddenly I was jerked backwards, their leader had come up behind me, grabbing the end of the chain on my arm and spinning me into his fist, I had double vision momentarily and then became aware of a pain in my right side. The other gang member had taken advantage of my dizziness and was now hitting me with a baseball bat as hard as he could. I felt some of my ribs break and stumbled backwards, "Finish him off" I heard the leader say. The bat was swung around into the back of my leg and I dropped to the floor, I could hear my attacker laughing as he swung again, this time into my kidneys. My eyes were drawn back to our car as I heard Alice scream and I saw the leader stepping around to her. "Haha, Razor's gonna have some fun with her" the guy with the bat said, grabbing his crotch.
I lunged forwards, my fist meeting his groin. I heard him scream as twisted my hand, my gloves mangling the soft flesh there, even this punishment was too good for scum like him. As he fell to the floor I grabbed his head and twisted, there was a crack and he didn't move again.
I heard Alice scream again and turned to see Razor holding one of her wrists in his left hand and him slapping her with his right. I launched back to my feet adrenaline numbing my pains, "Razor!" I shouted, marching towards him stepping over motorbikes and bodies, some moving, some not. He threw Alice to the ground and started walking towards me.
"Come to play with the big dog eh? Why not take those gloves of yours off and do this man to man?"
"Gladly" I said tugging them off and throwing them to the floor.
As we came together in a clearing I felt my sense's sharpen and strength flow through my muscles, he didn't stand a chance.
He stepped in, throwing the first punch, but I was quicker. I jabbed him in the throat with my left hand and hooked with the right. As he turned back to me I span backwards, performing a reverse hooking kick and catching him with my heel to his jaw, and reinforcing the blow with a downwards elbow strike, knocking him to the floor, blood pouring from his mouth.
He shouted in rage and got back to his feet, pulling a knife from his pocket, I span backwards again, thrusting my foot into his chest with all the strength I had and he flew backwards, landing next to the dead gunman from earlier, the only sound he made was a strange gurgling as he drew laboured breaths, struggling to do even that.
"Chad" Alice screamed throwing herself into my arms, sobbing from the events, a large red mark on her cheek.
I stood holding her for a few moments and felt a warmth inside me, the knowledge that she was safe dulling my fury.
Click, Alice and I looked up to see Razor pointing a gun at my head, he must have found the one that had been dropped by the shooter, "Let's see how bullet proof you are hero"
Too late Razor heard the footsteps behind him, "I'm not," I said " But meet Gilgamesh." Alice and I turned away from them, not wanting to see the outcome. There was a bang as Razor fired the gun, then a metallic scrape as Gilgamesh drew his weapon. Razor's scream was cut short by a whooshing and a dull thud. I heard more footsteps as Gilgamesh stepped around to face me, we bowed our heads to each other and he vanished, disappearing into the darkness behind the street lamps.
"It's for your own protection Mr Oxden, this isn't the first time we've done this so please stop worrying, you'll be perfectly safe." He opened a door and helped Alice get in while I went around to the other side and jumped in myself.
