Blackness. All around me, I could only see blackness. Was I dead? I tried moving, but I couldn't tell if I really was or not. It seemed my senses were really sluggish or I don't have any anymore. I tried yelling but it seemed my voice was instantly lost. I felt the vibrations of my vocal cords, but I couldn't hear anything. Couldn't feel anything. Maybe I really was dead...
Sorry to disappoint, but you aren't dead.
Who said that? Once again I tried moving around, trying to pinpoint the direction of the voice but I couldn't tell if I heard it or thought I heard it. Maybe I was imagining things. Maybe I really was dead and some demon of the underworld was playing tricks on me. How did I get here in the first place?
You don't remember? said the Voice. It was driving me crazy. I can hear the voice, but I can't at the same time. Was I going crazy? Was I in hell? And then it hit me like a train at top speed.
I was participating in a tournament. I was fighting someone. A woman. I saw fear in her eyes. But I wasn't fighting. Was I? Why can't I remember? It all seems like it was a dream
Maybe I used too much of your energy? That would explain why you're acting in this way. I guess humans really don't have much to begin with, the Voice sighed. Or at least I think it did. It was hard to tell. I couldn't even tell if it was a man or woman talking.
I am neither. I am a part of you just as much as you are a part of me. Your strengths and weaknesses are mine just as my strengths and weaknesses are yours. I'm beginning to get a little aggravated with whoever it is speaking in riddles.
"Why don't you just tell me who you are and why you're inside my... mind!" I shouted. But in this place, I heard nothing.
Seems you humans are slow learners. If you must know, I am the reason why you are who you are, Muthrik, and why you're capable of the things you can do when normal humans can't. My name is Ultima.
Ultima? Ultima... Wait! Ultima Weapon! The scientist in that hologram I saw so long ago mentioned I have Ultima's genes. I actually forgot about that being so focused on becoming a SeeD and all.
"Why are you talking to me now? Why haven't you before?" I asked impatiently. I'm tired of being in this nothingness with the voice of Ultima Weapon as my only companion. But he didn't respond. Instead, I was greeted by a blinding light followed by hollow sounds of a lot of people. I felt my arm sting but it felt so distant that I forgot about the pain shortly.
"Seems he's finally coming to!" I heard a female voice say loudly. Too loudly.
"Keep your voice down," I managed to say groggily. I felt my senses start picking up, almost like I was paralyzed before and now my body started "working" again. I tried sitting up, but I felt someone's hand on my chest pushing me back down gently. The voices of the people were getting louder. Sounds like a lot of people were talking at once.
"You shouldn't get up, Muthrik. You're hurt pretty badly."
I opened my eyes. My vision was quite blurry but focused in a matter of moments. I was looking up at a woman with flaming red hair and very fair skin. She was wearing a SeeD uniform with Trabia Garden's logo patched on her sleeve. I've seen her before. Yes, she was one of the students I saw waiting to ride with me to the tournament. Why was she here? I tried sitting up again, knowing she was going to try and push me back down. Once her hand was on my chest, I grabbed it with my right hand but what happened shocked the both of us: there was a huge wound from where I blocked Renea's strike that started closing and healing before our eyes.
Uh...
Your strengths and weaknesses are mine just as my strengths and weaknesses are yours. And thanks to me, you seemed to have inherited my ability to regenerate at a much faster pace than any human. Also the drawback of it taking some time for it to kick in.
Me and the woman looked at each. "Well, that's...um...interesting," she said between gasps. Still speechless after discovering my new ability, I couldn't do anything but nod. Then suddenly, her hand shot out and grabbed the bottom of my shirt.
"H-hey!" I exclaimed as she pulled up my shirt suddenly.
"Wow... You can't even see where she cut you anymore. And it looked just as bad as the cut on your arm," the woman said in a whisper. Seemed she was talking to herself more than talking to me. I pushed her off me.
"It's rude to place your hands on another individual without asking permission," I said as I pulled down my shirt, feeling agitated that she would do such a thing. If she wasn't a woman, I would've broken her wrist for placing a hand on me in the first place.
She quickly bowed. "You're right. I'm sorry." She stood up and walked closer to the bed I was sitting in. "My name is Amber, but everyone calls me Sky."
As I was about to get up, the curtain surrounding me opened and Marc stepped in. He walked passed Sky as if she wasn't there.
"Looks like you're as good as new," Marc said quietly, making a quick glance at my arm.
"Yeah, seems like I am," I said as I got out of bed. Now where is my weapon?
Marc held out his hand, holding my weapon, Destiny. I looked at him and grabbed my weapon from his hand.
"You have an interesting weapon. They handed it to me after carrying your heavy ass in here and I decided to test it out on a few monsters in the area. I've used a gunblade before but never a pin-fire sword and was curious as to how it works."
Sky stood up. "Well I better be going. I'll see you guys around," she said and walked out of my "room" quickly. What's her problem?
Marc's gaze followed her as she left. Then he turned to me with a dopey grin on his face.
"Who's that?" he mocked. "Got yourself a girlfriend while you were napping?"
"Whatever," I said as I headed out. "So how was my weapon?"
Marc followed me from behind. Because this place was crowded, we didn't have enough room to stand side by side.
"Don't know," he said. "Once I tried using it, it suddenly got very heavy and I couldn't lift it. I even tried firing the gun but all I got were clicks. I checked to see if the ammo cartridges were charged or even still there, but everything was normal. It was pretty odd."
During the tournament, I used my power to make it that only you can wield the weapon. It will sense if someone else wants to use it and it will reject them. It will even reject someone trying to steal it. But of course, if that's not their intention, they can carry it no problem, Ultima said.
"I'm the only one who can use the weapon. It will reject anyone else," I said without looking back.
"That's a nice feature to have," Marc said quietly. "The tournament has ended a while ago. Ready to head back to Trabia Garden?"
"Yeah sure," I replied absently. I saw Sky walk into one of the air ships with a few other girls and headed in their direction.
Sorry to disappoint, but you aren't dead.
