A shrill whistle pierced the air, Sir Valiant had risen, and the chocobos were running down the hill at full speed, a desperate race to beat the monster to the mages. Just in time they reached Dreygon and Yarfew, the Behemoth just feet away, and the mages gave one last look towards our leader, leapt upon their mounts and retreated, carrying out the last order they had been given. The Behemoth, furious at being denied it's prey, lashed out with a fury like I'd never seen before. As the remaining chocobos tried to get past, the Behemoth attacked, killing them both. The first was caught with a powerful swipe, it's bones crushed and it's organs fatally damaged, the second was bitten, the beast grabbing it by it's neck and savaging it with powerful jaws.
Sir Valiant helped me to my feet, and confirmed my worst fears "We must fight. We have no escape and little chance of survival. Forgive me for dragging you into this."
I faced my mentor and grasped his arm "Don't apologise, we're not finished yet and the monster is surely weakened. If I must die then it will be on the battlefield, protecting my country"
Sir Valiant smiled, "For Alexandria!" he proclaimed.
I agreed, "For Alexandria!"
We ran towards the Behemoth, leaping over the debris from the destruction, "Follow my lead" Sir Valiant ordered and we continued straight at the beast. As we approached it turned to face us, swiping at Sir Valiant as it turned. Sir Valiant ducked and raised his sword, slicing the creatures left paw and then hacking it's muzzle as it tried to catch him between it's jaws. I did the same on the right side whenever I was attacked and it seemed to be working, the creature was backing away and attacking with less ferocity, it's face and legs dripping blood.
Suddenly the Behemoth rose on it's hind legs and slammed itself forwards, jolting the ground around us, splitting the earth. We were caught off guard and vulnerable. I tried to climb to my feet again but the Behemoth was too quick, it picked me up in it's mouth, crushing me between powerful jaws and I could feel my armour buckling under the pressure. This Is how I would die.
As the Behemoth bit down I could feel an excruciating pain as my bones started to flex, close to breaking point, when I heard Sir Valiant's battle cry. The creature tossed me aside, a limp ragdoll, broken and battered. I looked up to see Sir Valiant hacking at the underside of the beast, it leapt backwards away from this threat, then lunged forwards again, knocking Sir Valiant to the floor. It raised a muscular leg to bring it's paw crashing down on my mentor, again and again, and from where I lay I heard his leg bones shatter with a sickening crack, he was going to be killed and his life would be taken because he'd tried to save mine.
As I watched this vicious assault I was overcome with grief, and for the first time in my life I prayed to the Gods, "Please, if there is anything that can be done, help us"
My pains started to ease, death was coming fast, or so I thought. As the pain vanished I felt my mind focus, and I knew I wasn't dying, my body was healing. Within moments I was strong enough to stand and then I felt it, a power surging through my body, and I knew I was in a Trance. I grabbed my sword, I could swear that a holy light was shining from it, and I rushed forward, throwing myself between Sir Valiant and the Behemoth. What happened next appeared as if in slow motion, the Behemoth swiped at me and as if guided by a puppeteer my swordarm swung out, slicing through the creatures leg like a knife through butter, severing the tendons, crippling the monster. It's head lunged forward trying to crush me between those jaws again, and as if by instinct I rolled forward, underneath the beast and thrust my sword upwards and into it's chest, the Behemoth flinched backwards, standing on it's hind legs and then fell sideways, dead before it hit the floor, my weapon had found it's mark in the creatures heart. I passed out, exhaustion sweeping over me.
When I awoke I was surprised to find myself in a bed, Sir Dreygon sat beside me "Take things slowly" he said "how do you feel"
"Fine" I answered truthfully, somehow the Trance had left me feeling as if there had been no battle, and then I remembered what had happened "Sir Valiant, is he…?" the question lingered.
"He'll make a full recovery thanks to you. After we fled I sent Lady Yarfew ahead to raise the alarm, I returned incase my help was needed. I saw you slay the Behemoth, it was like nothing I'd ever seen before, fortunately I'd recovered enough magical energy to ease the worst of Sir Valiants injuries until reinforcements arrived to transport you back" Sir Dreygon explained
"Thank the Gods, if not for them we would both surely be dead" I started to rise from my bed but Dreygon pushed me back down.
"You are to rest. Queen Garnet ordered you not be disturbed, she said you were not getting out of the Royal Summons that easily" he chuckled
"Then I'd better start planning my strategy!" I had the strangest sense that I was going to particularly enjoy this years tournament.
Thank you for reading my rp's, I hope you enojoyed reading them as much as I enjoyed writing, looking forward to doing more character development and all feedback is welcome
